SCOUTING LONGWOOD
The Lancers (3-4) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory at UNC-Asheville on Saturday in their Big South opener. Junior Mikel Abando leads Longwood with four goals and nine points. The Lancers have four players who have scored at least two goals this season.

SERIES HISTORY
The Patriots have never lost to the Lancers, boasting a 6-0-1 record in the all-time series. Mason recorded a 2-0 shutout victory over Longwood last September in Farmville, Va., with then-sophomore Grant Robinson scoring his first career goal.

LAST TIME OUT
The Patriots suffered a 2-1 loss at Yale last Friday in their first game in nearly two weeks after three games were postponed or cancelled due to inclement weather and scheduling conflicts. Yale scored midway through the first half and added an insurance goal early in the second half. Mason junior captain Ryan Mingachos scored on a header off a free kick by Colin Brezniak in the 77th minute but it wasn't enough to climb out of a two-goal hole. The Patriots only mustered three shots on goal.

GLIMPSE AT THE PATRIOTS
Mason returns 21 letterwinners and seven starters from last year's team that went 5-9-2. Junior midfielder Ryan Mingachos leads the way as the team's top returning scorer as he logged a career-high six goals and three assists for 15 points in 2017. The Patriots add 12 newcomers, including seven transfers and five freshmen. The group features forward Colin Brezniak, who scored three goals and made nine starts at Pittsburgh last fall, and a pair of transfers from Virginia Tech in forward Gregor von Westphalen and midfielder Daniel Damiani. Mason also brings in defender Pablo Pertusa, who was a junior college All-American at Monroe College in New York last season.

NEXT UP
The Patriots continue a three-game homestand at 7 p.m. on Saturday against Appalachian State at George Mason Stadium. They then open up Atlantic 10 play against George Washington next Wednesday at home.
