Fairfax, Va. – George Mason University women's volleyball team wrapped up non-conference play with a 3-1 loss to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on Friday night. The Patriots will head into Atlantic 10 play next week with a record of 2-8.
In the opening set, the Patriots fell behind early, 7-1. Mason responded with a four-point run of its own for a score of 7-5. The Patriots were able to inch away at the Mountain Hawks lead to ultimately take the set – winning 25-22.
The second set saw a tight game between the Patriots and Mountain Hawks in the early stages. A kill by
Peyton Ehmke tied up the score, 11-11. Lehigh ended the set on a three-point run to lift them past Mason – winning 25-19.
Another close game between the Patriots left the set tied 18-18 after a kill by
Katrina Santos. Lehigh then went on a four-point run that proved to be too large to overcome for the Patriots – winning the set, 25-20.
In the final set, Mason once again found themselves down, 21-16. After two kills by Ehmke and a one kill by Hardy, Mason closed in on the Mountain Hawks' lead 21-20. In the final stages of the fourth, the set saw four ties that led to a score of 25-25. Extra points determined the set and ultimately the game as Lehigh took the final two points – winning the set, 27-25.

The Patriots begin Atlantic 10 play next weekend with Dayton at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21 followed by Saint Louis at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22. Both matches will be played at the RAC.
