FAIRFAX, Va. – For the fourth consecutive season, the George Mason women's lacrosse team has been recognized nationally for its academic excellence.

On Monday, the Patriots were once again named an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad. Mason was one of 339 schools across NCAA Division I, II and III and the NAIA to receive the honor.

In addition, seven members of the team were named to IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll – tied with Saint Joseph's for the most of any Atlantic 10 school. Elizabeth Benedetto, Kira Greer, Lindsey Tangeman, Holly Tevis, Hannah Warpinski, Corinne Wessels and Rachel Woods all made the honor roll.

To be eligible for the team award, the team must have compiled a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2017-18 academic year. The Patriots posted a team GPA of 3.4 this past school year.

For the individual award, student-athletes must have been a junior, senior or graduate student with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Greer, Tangeman and Warpinski earned the honor for the second straight year while Benedetto, Tevis, Wessels and Woods made the honor roll for the first time.

Greer, Tangeman and Warpinski each received the prestigious George Mason's Peter N. Stearns Provost Athlete Award three times during their career for achieving a cumulative 3.75 GPA or higher. All three graduated from Mason in May.

Greer, a native of Flemington, N.J., received her degree in psychology and also was a two-time Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team honoree. Tangeman, a graduate from Winter Park, Fla., completed her degree in Winter Park, Fla. Warpinski, a co-captain from Harwood, Md., graduated with her degree in kinesiology and was a two-time A-10 All-Academic Team honoree.

Tevis, a co-captain from Mantua, N.J., also graduated in May with her degree in finance. Wessels is currently enrolled in graduate school for early education. The Manassas native played just one season with the Patriots after spending the previous three at Northwestern, where she completed her bachelor's degree in human development and psychological services in December 2017.

Benedetto and Woods both head into their senior campaigns. Benedetto, a goalkeeper from Fairfax, is a criminology major. Woods, a defender from Longmeadow, Mass., also is majoring in criminology and has been named a Provost Scholar Athlete each of the last two years.
