Patriots Seeded Second For 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason baseball team finished the Atlantic 10 regular season with a record of 16-8 and will be the No. 2 seed in the A-10 Championship, which begins on Wednesday, May 23 at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Va.

Mason (26-25, 16-8 A-10) will face No. 7 seed George Washington (29-24, 13-11 A-10) on Wednesday with the first pitch scheduled for 1:30 p.m.  The Colonials won a tiebreaker with Rhode Island for the final spot based on winning percentage against common opponents.

The Patriots have earned a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship for the second straight season and the third time since joining the conference in 2014.

George Mason and Fordham finished in a tie for second place in the conference at 16-8 (.667), but the Patriots won the tiebreaker based on results against the highest-seeded common opponent.  Mason was 2-1 against Richmond, while Fordham went 1-2 against the Spiders.

Saint Louis (35-18, 19-4 A-10) won its fifth Atlantic 10 regular season title and will have a bye in the first round as the top seed in the double-elimination tournament. 

Third-seeded Fordham will play sixth-seeded VCU, last year's regular season champion, on Wednesday at 10 a.m.  Richmond is the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 Davidson on Wednesday at 5 p.m.  The Wildcats are the defending Atlantic 10 Tournament champion.

There will be four games on Wednesday and Thursday, Friday's semifinal day has three games scheduled and the championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 12 p.m.

The winner of the A-10 Championship receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
