BURKE, Va. – The George Mason University men's tennis team starts strong, but dropped a 4-1 decision to the Colgate Raiders on Saturday in Burke.
Mason won the doubles point, but dropped the four singles matches as the Raiders claimed victory.
"We battled today but fell short, the guys had a tough time adjusting back to indoor and it showed in their play. " head coach Jimmy Davis said. "We worked hard to make adjustments and kept the matches very competitive, but couldn't close on the big shots."

Daniel Gutierrez won a thriller of their opponents from Hamilton, N.Y. Ray and Gutierrez won at No. 1 doubles, by the final score of 7-6 (2). Mason was defeated in No. 2 doubles by a final score of 7-6. In the decisive No. 3 doubles, freshman

Giuliano Buzoianu won by a final score of 6-0, which clinched the doubles point.
Mason struggled in singles, as Colgate captured all four of the single matches. Sophomore
Jakob Nielsen battled in every set but fell in the tiebreaker in singles No. 3. Sophomore
Edward Ayers was defeated 6-0 and 6-4. Alec Dardis of Colgate defeated freshman
Carter Bradford 6-4 and 6-4.
Giuliano Buzoianu was defeated 6-2 and 6-1.
Colgate clinched the match at the No. 6 position.
"Our doubles was a big improvement today, but we are still falling short of putting it all together," Davis said." I'm happy with the guys grit, and we are going to go into practice on Monday motivated to get to the next level as a team."
