FAIRFAX, Va. – The winningest class in program history will play one last home game at George Mason Stadium.
The Patriots host VCU in the regular-season finale at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Afterwards, Mason will honor its eight seniors –
Megan Curley,
Mackenzie Duffy,
Kira Greer,
Kristin Morgan,
Lindsey Tangeman,
Holly Tevis,
Hannah Warpinski and
Corinne Wessels – in a special ceremony on the field.
The class has compiled the most wins over four years of any senior class in program history with 43 victories. They've also helped guide the program to its first three trips to the Atlantic 10 tournament and back-to-back second-place finishes in the league.
"They have all transformed athletically – each one of them is peaking at the right time," fourth-year head coach
Jessy Morgan said. "It has been really nice throughout the years to see them go through that. They were players who wanted to come to George Mason for a reason. I'm glad they were able to come to a program and build a program into a winning program."
The Patriots (10-6, 4-4 Atlantic 10) will try end the regular season on a winning note heading into the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship. Mason is currently tied for fifth with Davidson with a 4-4 mark in league play. The top six teams reach the conference tournament, which will be held May 3-6 at the University of Richmond.
Mason has lost three of four and is coming off a 16-9 loss at Saint Joseph's on Sunday. Freshman
Erin Donoghue scored four goals and dished out an assist in the setback and was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week. The Mount Laurel, N.J., native scored nine goals and collected 18 draw controls.
VCU (7-9, 5-3) has won five of six and is coming off one of its biggest victories. The Rams, in just their third year as a program, defeated A-10 power Massachusetts on Sunday with a 17-16 overtime victory to snap the Minutewomen's NCAA record 61-game conference winning streak. VCU redshirt junior Sky Hyatt leads the Rams and ranks fourth in the conference with 48 goals.
The Patriots lead the all-time series 2-0, with both meetings coming in the last two years. Mason defeated VCU 19-8 last April in Richmond.
