FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's and women's tennis teams will host their annual Senior Day celebrations Saturday prior to the programs' A-10 regular season finale matchup with Saint Joseph's.
First serve between the Patriots and Hawks is set for 1 p.m. The women's tennis program does not have any seniors on its 2017-18 roster. The men's team will honor senior
Daniel Gutierrez at approximately 12:50 p.m. He is a 2017-18 team captain and key contributor to the Patriots both on and off the court.
Gutierrez has been a stalwart at No. 2 singles for much of his senior campaign for the Patriots. He's also teamed with
Pally Ray at No. 1 doubles in 2017-18 to go 11-5, including a 5-2 dual mark. They've teamed together in each of the past two seasons.
As a junior, Gutierrez posted an 18-11 singles record and 4-2 mark in dual action.
In the classroom, the Costa Rica native is one of the Mason athletic department's most accomplished student-athletes. A three-time Provost Scholar-Athlete, he also is a three-time Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection. Gutierrez will graduate in May with a degree in system engineering.
