Brian Negron (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and graduate student
Johnny Gomez (Indialantic, Fla.) represent George Mason on the 2018 EIVA All-Academic team and mark the third time in the last four years the Patriots have had multiple players on the list. The list has 19 players and the Patriots are one of five teams to have multiple players selected.
The requirements for the EIVA All-Academic team is to maintain at least a 3.50 GPA and play in at least 60 percent of the team's sets. Negron is majoring in Sports Management and adds his second consecutive EIVA All-Academic award to his resume. This is Gomez's first EIVA All-Academic selection. The graduate student is pursuing a master's degree of Science in Sport and Recreation Studies with a concentration in Sport Management.
Negron was named First-Team All-EIVA on Tuesday, and took home the prestigious Uvaldo Acosta Memorial EIVA Player of the Year award. Gomez's Tuesday wasn't too shabby either, as the libero earned Second-Team All-EIVA honors.
The Patriots won the regular season EIVA title for the first time in the current conference alignment and will host the EIVA Tournament. The first match for the Green and Gold is Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. vs. Princeton at the RAC.
