FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason Softball team (12-23, 2-7 A-10) will square off against St. Bonaventure for the second go around this this season. The three-game A-10 slate begins with a noon time doubleheader on Saturday and concludes with a single noon hour game on Sunday.
The Patriots and Bonnies have met once before this season. The teams went head-to-head in the Charleston Southern Tournament on Feb. 24, a game that served as George Mason's third game of the late-February showcase. The Green and Gold won the game 3-1 behind a complete game victory by freshman
Haellie Gordon that only required 83 pitched. Gordon didn't surrender an earned run and inked her first collegiate complete game victory in the circle. RS-freshman
Miah Wilson also drove in two of the Patriots' three runs for her second multi-RBI game of the season.
The Patriots will look to ride newfound momentum from their comeback victory vs. Georgetown (April 11) into the weekend. Sophomore
Madison Aker hit an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 3-3. One inning later, freshman
Marissa Butts walked it off with an RBI double to left. Aker got credit for her first career home run and Butts' logged her first career double.
George Mason had four players pitch in relief in Wednesday's victory and only gave up one earned run in eight innings of work. Sophomore
Madison Larsen led the way with three innings – her longest outing of the season. The combination of Larsen,
Taylor Mayer,
Haellie Gordon and
Bekah Ansbro did a good job of limiting baserunners, posting a WHIP of an even 1.00 in the last eight innings of the game.
Senior
Brooke Sullivan continues to swing a hot bat and added two more hits to her season total on Wednesday. The Newville, Pa. native's next RBI will set a new single-season career high and is currently one hit shy of tying her single-season career high. Sullivan also doubled in the bottom of the eighth to put herself in a position to score the winning run on Butts' walk-off hit.
Sullivan has taken the team lead in batting average at .316, one point ahead of teammate
Jess Curbeira. Sullivan is well on her way to a career season her senior year by currently holding a slash line of .316/.442/.429, all those numbers at least 35 points higher than her original career highs entering the 2018 season. Sullivan needs two hits to reach an even 100 for her career. She's posted seven games this season of two or more hits, the second most on the team.
