FAIRFAX, Va. – On the heels of one of its more successful non-conference seasons in recent memory, the George Mason women's lacrosse team shifts gears for Atlantic 10 Conference play.

And an archrival awaits in the league opener.

The Patriots make the short trip to play Revolutionary Rival George Washington at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Mount Vernon Athletic Complex in Washington, D.C., in the A-10 opener for both teams. Both teams enjoyed success out of conference with the Colonials (7-1) winning more non-conference games than any other team in the A-10. Mason (6-2) also tallied its most non-conference wins in four years.

George Washington has won five straight and is coming off a 13-7 victory at Radford in its last game, nine days ago on March 20. Senior Jocelyn Donohue leads the Colonials with 23 goals and ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 and fellow senior Camaryn Kerns has scored 17 goals. Freshman Jenna Oler tops the A-10 in saves (85) and save percentage (.599).

The Patriots have won two straight and four of five. They closed out the non-conference slate with a 16-5 victory at Old Dominion on Saturday. Freshman Erin Donoghue scored a career-high six goals, won five draw controls and collected four ground balls and was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.

Five Mason players have scored 10 goals or more, paced by 20 from junior Chachi Kelehan. Donoghue has scored 19 and senior midfielder Hannah Warpinski has 18 goals to go along with a team-high 36 draw controls. Graduate student Corinne Wessels leads the Atlantic 10 with 17 assists and is tied for third in the conference with Kelehan at 31 points. Sophomore Melissa Semkiw ranks third in the A-10 with 76 saves and is fifth in both save percentage (.535) and goals against average (8.66).

Mason leads the all-time series 13-3 over George Washington. The Patriots have won the last three meetings. Mason was picked to tie for third in the A-10 preseason coaches poll and GW was projected to finish eighth.
