FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason men's volleyball received recognition in the Feb. 19 edition of the EIVA weekly awards, with junior Kyle Barnes (Virginia Beach, Va.) winning Offensive Player of the Week. The accomplishment marks the first collegiate award for the outside hitter.
Barnes compiled 22 total kills over six sets for an average of 3.67 kills per set to lead the attack over the weekend. His big match came Saturday vs. Princeton where Barnes' 14 kills and .684 hit percentage set a new single-match career high. Overall on the weekend, Barnes hit .500 (22-3-38) - his best two-match stretch of his career with at least 20 total attacks.
George Mason defeated both NJIT (Feb. 16) and Princeton (Feb. 17) in straight sets. Entering Monday, the Patriots are tied for second in the EIVA standings.
The Patriots are off to a 2-0 start in conference play for the first time since 2013. That season they finished 11-3 in EIVA matches.
