SCOUTING MASSACHUSETTS
The Minutemen (4-5-2, 0-2) are off to a rough start in league play after winning the conference's regular-season and tournament championships in 2017. UMass has lost three straight, including setbacks to St. Bonaventure and VCU to open conference. Jack Fulton, Davis Smith and DeAndrae Brown lead the Minutemen with four goals apiece. UMass head coach Fran O'Leary is no stranger to the Patriots as he coached at Mason from 2001-04. 
 
SERIES HISTORY
UMass leads the all-time series 2-1. The Minutemen defeated the Patriots 4-1 last October in Mason's final home game of the season. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Patriots rolled by George Washington for a 3-0 victory at home on Wednesday night to win their Atlantic 10 opener for the first time in five years. Junior Tunde Akinlosotu scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season to set the tone in the seventh minute. Redshirt senior Tolu Ibikunle came off the bench and scored in the 42 nd minute, maneuvering through five defenders before netting his first goal of the season. Junior Grant Robinson then scored his second goal of the season late in the second half to clinch the Patriots' first conference victory since 2015. Colin Brezniak, Ryan Mingachos and Pablo Pertusa all recorded assists and goalkeeper Clark Gronek made four saves for his second shutout in three games.
