Mason Concludes Six-Match Homestand This Weekend

FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University women's volleyball wraps up its six-match homestand this weekend with two matches. The Patriots will take on the Fordham Rams at 7 p.m. on Friday followed by a 5 p.m. match against Rhode Island on Saturday. Both matches will be played at the RAC.
 
Mason is currently on a two-match winning streak after defeating George Washington 3-1. The Patriots defeated the Colonials for the first time since 2007. The Patriots are off to their best start in conference play since joining the league in 2013.
 
NEW AND NOTES
  • Peyton Ehmke was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week for her second straight A-10 weekly honor. The middle blocker tallied a career-high 10 blocks and five kills against GW.
  • Emily Konchan collected 33 assists in Mason's victory over GW. The sophomore setter is now four assists away from 1,000 career assists.
  • Catie Espinoza tabbed 18 digs against GW to put her 12 digs away from first on Mason's all-time career digs list. 
  • The Patriots registered 19.5 blocks compared to GW's three. Mason ranks first in the A-10 with 4.12 blocks per set in conference matches only. 
  • After 10 service aces last weekend, Mason is tied for first in the A-10 with 1.40 service aces per set. 
  • Mason and Fordham are tied in its all-time series record, 4-4. 
  • Mason looks for its first victory over Rhode Island in program history. Rhode Island leads the all-time series 9-0. 
  • The Patriots will see both programs again this season; Rhode Island on Nov. 9 in Kingston, R.I. and Fordham on Nov. 10 in New York, N.Y.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
 
Fordham: 8-8 (1-2 Atlantic 10)
 
The Rams are currently on a two-game losing streak after suffering losses to Duquesne and La Salle. Fordham's only conference win this season came against Saturday's opponent, Rhode Island.
 
Kaitlin Morley sits fifth in the Atlantic 10 with 3.38 kills per set. On the defensive side, Morgan Williams sits fourth in the A-10 with 4.44 digs per set and Elise Benjamin ranks second with 1.41 blocks per set. 
 
Mason and Fordham only saw each other once last season, resulting in a 3-0 win for the Rams on Sept. 29, 2017.   
 
Rhode Island: 7-8 (1-2 Atlantic 10)
 
Rhode Island started Atlantic 10 play with back-to-back losses to Fordham and La Salle. The Rams picked up their first conference win over Duquesne on Sept. 29.           
 
Lauren Pick guides the Rams' offensive effort with 9.13 assists per set – good for third in the A-10.
 
Rhode Island swept Mason last season in the only matchup between the two teams on Sept. 30, 2017. The Patriots will look for its first victory over the Rams since joining the league in 2013.
