DAVIDSON, N.C. – George Mason University women's volleyball wrapped up its weekend road trip with a 3-1 loss to Davidson on Sunday afternoon; 14-25, 25-22, 24-26, 22-25. The Patriots drop to 6-11 overall and 4-3 in the Atlantic 10.
"It was a tough weekend for us," said head coach
Aylene Ilkson. "I don't think we played liked ourselves and we lacked the ability to execute when it was needed."
The Patriots will look to bounce back next weekend with a pair of matches against Duquesne (Oct. 19) and La Salle (Oct. 21).
In the opening set, Davidson jumped out to an early lead, 10-1. After a three-point scoring run by the Patriots, the Wildcats scored seven straight points to extend its lead. Davidson's attacked proved to be too much for Mason as they took the set 25-14.
In the second set, Mason claimed an early 11-9 lead thanks to back-to-back kills by Niu and
Peyton Ehmke. After a service ace by
Marlanna Bozicevich, the Patriots went up 20-15. A 4-1 scoring run by Davidson cut the lead to 21-19. After three errors by the Wildcats, the Patriots jumped out to a five-point lead, sealing the set victory 25-22.
Mason led in the early stages of the third set for a score of 6-3. After Davidson tied up the set seven all, the two teams exchanged scoring runs for the remainder of the set. The third was decided in extra points as the Wildcats won the set 26-24.
In the fourth set, Mason found itself down 23-18. The Patriots began their comeback after two errors by Davidson. The Patriots then cut the Wildcats' lead to one after another three-straight points. Ultimately, the Wildcats scored the final two points of the match to claim the set 25-22.

- Bozicevich stepped up for the Patriots, tallying career-highs in kills (8) and digs (11) with two service aces.
