RICHMOND, Va. – George Mason University women's volleyball fell to VCU in straight sets on Friday night; 25-19, 25-18, 25-17. The Rams remain undefeated in Atlantic 10 play with a conference record of 6-0 while Mason drops to 4-2 in the conference.
The Patriots will regroup after tonight's loss for a matchup at Davidson on Sunday with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m.
In the opening set, VCU jumped out to an early 7-3 lead thanks to a four-point scoring run. After kills by
Maddie French and
Katrina Santos, the Patriots closed in on the Rams' lead for a score of 16-11. Another three-point run by the Patriots left the score at 22-16. VCU ultimately took the first set, 25-19.
The second set saw a tight match between the two teams with VCU holding onto a small 14-12 lead. The Rams finished the set on a 7-1 run to take the second, 25-18.
In the final set of competition, the Rams dominated in the early stages for a commanding 10-3 lead. After a Mason timeout, VCU continued its offensive attack for a lead of 16-5. Despite a late 6-1 scoring run by the Patriots, the Rams took the final set 25-17.
