FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason took home both EIVA Weekly Awards in the third round of the 2018 distribution.
Hayden Wagner (York, Pa.) snagged the Offensive Honor and
Johnny Gomez (Indialantic, Fla.) took home the Defensive Honor.
Week three of 2018 marks the fourth time Gomez has won EIVA Defensive Player of the Week. Wagner receiving his recognition marks the first time he's won a weekly EIVA award.
Just one week removed from a career night at #7 Loyola-Chicago, Wagner one-upped that performance by setting personal bests in kills (24), hit percentage (.459), aces (3) and total points (28.0). His 24 kills were the most in a match by a Patriot since the 2016 season. His stellar performance on the attack helped the Patriots hit .444 as a team in their 3-1 win vs. Mount Olive, their highest total in a match since 3/25/17 when they logged .478 vs. Charleston (W.V.)
Gomez patrolled the defensive side of the net by recording 14 digs and helped hold the Trojans to a .106 hit percentage in the Patriots 3-1 win. It was Gomez's second match of 14 digs this season, giving him an even 50 through six matches. Additionally, the Indialantic, Fla. native was a perfect 21-for-21 on reception chances, and made some key digs to help keep Mason in system allowing for its season high .444 team hit percentage.
