Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
KINGSTON, R.I. – After a week between games, the George Mason women's basketball team showed no signs of rust in a convincing road victory.

Freshman Nicole Cardaño-Hillary scored 22 points as four players scored in double figures to help the Patriots roll to a 92-53 victory over Rhode Island on Sunday at the Ryan Center. Graduate student Natalie Butler also posted her 17th straight double-double, which leads the country, with 15 points and 16 rebounds. She is just the eighth player in Division I history to record at least 17 consecutive games with a double-double.

Mason (14-4, 3-1 Atlantic 10) notched its most lopsided victory in conference play since joining the Atlantic 10 in 2013-14. The Patriots also collected their 14th win, marking their most wins in a season since 2011-12.

Head coach Nyla Milleson also recorded her 350th victory as a collegiate head coach. Milleson, who also has been a head coach at Division II Drury (Mo.) and Missouri State, is 350-203 in 18 years.

The Atlantic 10 Conference's top two scorers – Cardaño-Hillary and Butler – again led the way. But they also received plenty of help.

Freshman Marika Korpinen came off the bench to score all of her career-high 11 points in the first half and sophomore Sarah Kaminski added 10 points. Ten players scored for the Patriots and all 13 available players logged minutes.

In addition to her game-high 22 points, Cardaño-Hillary dished out a career-high seven assists and nabbed a career-high seven steals, just one shy of the school record. The 5-foot-7 point guard from Madrid, Spain, also tied a personal best with five rebounds.

Butler, a 6-foot-5 center from Fairfax Station, Va., shot 5 of 10 from the field. She made all five of her free throw attempts.

The Patriots took the lead less than three minutes in and didn't relinquish it the rest of the way. They led 46-27 at halftime and pushed the advantage to 41 late in the fourth quarter. They shot 47.2 percent from the field and made nine 3-pointers. They also dished out 19 assists on 34 made baskets.

Defensively, the Patriots also nabbed 17 steals – their most in nearly 12 years. They held Rhode Island to 35.1 percent shooting. The Rams scored just nine points in the final period. It marked the ninth time this season Mason has held an opponent to less than 60 points.

The Patriots return home to play Richmond at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax for Elementary Education Day.
