FAIRFAX, VA. – The George Mason women's soccer team went to overtime for the first time this season, falling to Maryland 2-1 on Sunday at George Mason Stadium.
Mason (0-5-0) nearly took the lead in the 16th minute of play when junior
Rebecca Callison found open space from 15 yards out but hit the crossbar behind the leaping Maryland goalkeeper.
Maryland (5-0-1) senior Madison Turner scored a late goal in the first half, finding the net on a header in the 44th minute to give the Terrapins a 1-0 advantage at the half.
Early in the second half, Mason goalkeeper
Louisa Moser kept it a one-goal game, making a diving save in the 47th minute of play to turn the Terrapins away.
The Patriots applied pressure throughout the second half and tied the game in the 56th minute. Junior
Emily Littell raced down the left side and sent a perfect cross to Callison, who found the back of the net to make it a 1-1 game.
In overtime, the Terrapins were awarded a penalty kick and sophomore Jion Flippens scored the game winning goal into the lower left corner for the 2-1 final. The Patriots played their first overtime game of the season. Maryland needed overtime to decide a match for a fourth straight game.
Mason finished with a 15-13 advantage in shots while Maryland had a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. Senior

The Terrapins had 11 corners and the Patriots had 10. Moser made four saves in the game for the Patriots.
The Patriots conclude their three-game homestand against Rutgers on Friday, Sept. 8 with the kickoff slated for 5 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.
