FAIRFAX, VA. - Former George Mason Men's Volleyball Outside Hitter
Radoslav Popov will continue his volleyball career at the professional level playing for Pirin Razlog in Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian native finished his Mason career averaging 2.56 kills per set with a .279 attack percentage. Additionally Popov enjoyed a career average of 3.02 points per set. Despite being limited to 47 sets in 2017, Popov finished fifth on the team in kills (121) and service aces (11). His 121 kills over 47 sets equates to 2.57 kills per set, which was good for second on the team in 2017.
"We are excited for Radoslav and his next step in his professional playing career," Men's Volleyball coach
Jay Hosack said. "Rady was a great team player, and although shorter than most outside hitters in the pro ranks, he possesses a keen ability to put himself in good positions during a match. He sees the block very well, and has a potent serve. We look forward to watching him continue to represent George Mason to the very best he can."
Popov's individual recognition at Mason include being selected to the ALL-EIVA All-Tournament Team twice (2014-15), ALL-EIVA Second Team and the ALL-EIVA Academic Team in 2015, as well as being named EIVA offensive player of the week for April 27. Popov was also awarded the EIVA Newcomer of the Year Award in 2014 and was selected to the EIVA First Team later that season. His 261 kills and 3.03 kills per set statistics ranked best on the team in 2014.
Pirin Razlog went 14-11 last season including a stretch where they won seven of eight matches. The team plays its home matches in Razlog, Bulgaria, the town Popov called home before attending George Mason for his collegiate career.
