DAVIDSON, N.C. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season in convincing fashion.
Now the Patriots will have to vanquish the same opponent to keep their season alive.
Mason cruised to a 19-9 victory over Davidson on the road on Saturday. With the win, the Patriots clinched the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 seed Davidson in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Championship at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia.
For the second straight year, the Patriots (11-6, 7-2 A-10) matched their conference record for wins (seven) and finished in a three-way tie for second place. But, due to tiebreaker scenarios, Mason is the No. 4 seed because of goal differential in matchups between Saint Joseph's (No. 2 seed) and Richmond (No. 3 seed). Eight-time defending A-10 Tournament champ Massachusetts (14-3, 9-0) secured the No. 1 seed. The Minutewomen will play the winner of the Mason-Davidson matchup in the semifinals at 1 p.m. on Friday.
