Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |
DAVIDSON, N.C. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season in convincing fashion.

Now the Patriots will have to vanquish the same opponent to keep their season alive.

Mason cruised to a 19-9 victory over Davidson on the road on Saturday. With the win, the Patriots clinched the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 seed Davidson in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Championship at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia.

For the second straight year, the Patriots (11-6, 7-2 A-10) matched their conference record for wins (seven) and finished in a three-way tie for second place. But, due to tiebreaker scenarios, Mason is the No. 4 seed because of goal differential in matchups between Saint Joseph's (No. 2 seed) and Richmond (No. 3 seed). Eight-time defending A-10 Tournament champ Massachusetts (14-3, 9-0) secured the No. 1 seed. The Minutewomen will play the winner of the Mason-Davidson matchup in the semifinals at 1 p.m. on Friday.

Against Davidson (7-9, 5-4), the Patriots scored the first three goals and stayed in front the entire game. Mason kept a comfortable lead throughout and led by as many 11 goals on multiple occasions. The Patriots were led by senior Alexa McGovern, sophomore Chachi Kelehan and freshman Hailey Johnson, who each scored four goals.

McGovern added two assists for a six-point night along with eight draw controls. Kelehan also dished out an assist. The four goals were a career high for Johnson, who needed just four shots.

Junior Lindsey Tangeman had two goals and a career-high three assists. Senior Brooke Lorber also had two goals and two assists. Seniors Jordan Sdanowich and Melissa Lobaccaro and freshman Kelley Reilley also scored. Lobaccaro added an assist as well. Junior Hannah Warpinski collected six draw controls.

Freshman Melissa Semkiw improved to 7-2 as she had six saves and a career-high four ground balls.
