PHILADELPHIA – The George Mason University women's tennis team took care of business in a 7-0 victory over La Salle on Saturday evening inside the school's tennis complex.
The Green & Gold won all three doubles contests and captured the first three singles decisions to clinch the team's first A-10 win of the year. Mason improves to 10-7 overall in 2017.
"It was good to get our first conference victory of the year," head coach
Stephen Curtis said. "Hopefully it puts us in the right mindset to battle a tough Saint Joseph's team tomorrow morning."
Mason's first doubles team of
Sydney Green and
Rachel Lee got things started with a quick 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles.
Scarlett Walston and
Olivia Lacy-Thompson took their No. 2 doubles match, 6-4, and
Morgan Yang/
Nicole Haigwood won their No. 3 showdown, 6-1.
In singles action, Green opened the proceedings with a straight sets win at No. 1 (6-1, 6-2).
Walston won 6-2, 6-0 to put the Patriots up 3-0, and
Morgan Yang made it 4-0 with a sweep at the No. 2 position (6-1, 6-0).
With the match clinched, the remaining contests were decided by 8-game prosets. Lee took an 8-0 decision at No. 4 singles while Lacy-Thompson also won, 8-0, at No. 5.
Liz Lowe claimed victory at No. 6, 8-4.
The Patriots are right back at it Sunday with a 10 a.m. contest against Saint Joseph's.
