FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 match to Duquesne on Friday afternoon at the Mason Tennis Complex.
Duquesne improves to 11-5 (4-1 A-10) while the Patriots fall to 8-6 (0-3 A-10).
The Patriots fell in the doubles point but did pick up a win at the No. 3 position.
Morgan Yang and
Nicole Haigwood took down Duquesne's tandem of Miller/Mitrovic, 6-3. The duo has won five of its past six singles matches.
The Dukes increased their lead to 3-0 after straight set victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
After dropping the first set at No. 4,
Rachel Lee rallied to win the second set, 6-1. But she dropped the final frame and Duquesne clinched the victory.
Mason's singles victory came at the No. 6 spot, where
Liz Lowe fell in the first set, 6-1. After winning the second, 7-6, Lowe dominated the third and took the match with a 10-1 third set win.
The Patriots are back in action at the Mason Tennis Complex Sunday when the Green & Gold battle Longwood at noon.
