FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team wraps up its longest road stretch of the season with hopes of creating a winning streak.
The Patriots play at Longwood at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Farmville, Va., for their third straight road game. After defeating Coastal Carolina on the road last weekend, Mason (3-3) aims to win consecutive games for the first time this season before returning to Fairfax for a three-game homestand.
Longwood (4-5) has lost two straight and three of four. The Lancers are led by sophomore Stephanie Roberts, who ranks fourth in the Big South with 21 goals. Junior Riley Dolan's are third-most in the Big South and Longwood has five players who have scored at least 10 goals already this season.
Mason leads the all-time series 2-1. The Patriots defeated the Lancers 16-11 last year in Fairfax as then-freshman
Chachi Kelehan set a career high with five goals and then-junior
Jordan Sdanowich had four goals, also setting a personal best.
The Patriots last played nearly a week ago, defeating Coastal Carolina 12-6 on Saturday in Conway, S.C., to end spring break. Mason scored the last nine goals of the game and shut out the Chanticleers 8-0 in the second half to rally from a three-goal first-half deficit.
Kelehan scored four goals and four players added two goals apiece. Junior
Hannah Warpinski had four draw controls and
Alexa McGovern had three. McGovern, a senior captain, is the program's all-time leader in draw controls with 128. She eclipsed the previous school record of 118 set by Emily Ellisen from 2009-12 earlier this season with four draw controls against No. 20 Virginia Tech.
???????Kelehan, a 2016 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie selection, now has a team-high 16 goals in her last four games after going scoreless in her first two games of the season. Kelehan's 16 goals and 20 points both rank ninth in the A-10.
