FAIRFAX, Va. – After earning Atlantic 10 All-Rookie honors in 2016, George Mason goalkeeper Elizabeth Benedetto picked up right where she left off to start 2017.

On Tuesday, Benedetto was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore from Fairfax tied a career high with 12 saves in a 9-7 win over William & Mary on Saturday in the Patriots' season opener.

Benedetto allowed just seven goals against 24 shots faced. She also tied a career high with three ground balls and caused a turnover. Last year, she set the single-season school record for lowest goals against average with .784 clip. She played in 13 games, made 12 starts and collected nine victories as she posted a .505 save percentage.
