Atlantic 10 Championships Day Four Results

GENEVA, Ohio –The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The men's team placed sixth overall with 395 points, while the women's team finished seventh overall with 306.5 points.
On the men's side, senior
Paul Helfgott took the silver in the three-meter diving event during the final day of competition with a score of 295.60. He also earned the top spot on the podium in the one-meter dive on day two, taking home the gold with a score of 294.40.
Helfgott was named 2017 Atlantic 10 Men's Most Outstanding Diver. Including the Atlantic 10 Championships, Helfgott recorded nine wins, placed second six times and finished third twice during the season.
Assistant coach
Zach Hawley, in the fourth season at Mason, was named 2017 Atlantic 10 Men's Diving Coach of the Year.
Junior
Matthew Lynch earned a spot on the podium on day four of the A-10 Championships, winning the bronze in the 200-yard butterfly (1:48.24).
Mason swimmers just missed the podium in three events during the final day of competition.
Freshman
Attila Kiss touched the wall fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle (15:35.66), while classmate
Ryan Donnelly placed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke with a NCAA B qualifying time (1:46.27).
In the 100-yard freestyle, junior
Alec Morin finished fourth (44.76), with senior
Zepher Begnell sixth (44.87) in the event.
The team of senior
Evan Owens, freshman
Christopher Stankiewicz, Begnell and Morin swam to a seventh place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:01.16).
The George Washington men's swimming and diving team won it's first-ever A-10 Championship, finishing the fourth day of competition with 565.5 team points. La Salle finished second (528) and Massachusetts was third (449), followed by Fordham (414.5), Saint Louis (401), George Mason (394), St. Bonaventure (391) and Davidson (275).
On the final day in the pool on the women's side, Mason made it to the podium when senior
Sydney Fisher won her third medal of the A-10 Championships, taking silver in the 100-yard freestyle with a NCAA B Standard time of 49.83. She finished just behind Davidson's Elise Lankiewicz, who broke the Atlantic 10 and meet record (49.11).
Fisher won gold in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.51) on day two and in the 100-yard butterfly (53.48) on day three of the competition. Both times are NCAA B Standard qualifying times.
Senior
Sarah Brallier just missed the podium on Saturday, finishing fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.46), with junior
Allison Barahona just behind in fifth place (2:17.00).
A trio of Mason swimmers finished in the top eight in the 200-yard butterfly in the final day of competition. Junior
Dorothy Reilly was sixth (2:03.84), sophomore
Christina McLemore finished seventh (2:03.87) and senior
Elizabeth Kleveno placed eighth (2:04.51).

Marla Albanese and Fisher finished sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:25.05).
The Richmond women's swimming and diving team finished with 570 team points to claim its seventh consecutive A-10 title and 15th in the last 16 years. Duquesne finished second (498.5) and Massachusetts was third (457), followed by Fordham (432.5), Davidson (390), George Washington (309), George Mason (306.5), Saint Louis (194), Rhode Island (193.5), St. Bonaventure (187.5) and La Salle (151.5).
