FAIRFAX, Va. – Before closing out its regular-season home schedule on Wednesday, the George Mason women's basketball team will honor its senior quartet.
The Patriots host Rhode Island at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at EagleBank Arena for Senior Night. Prior to tip-off, the team will recognize redshirt seniors
Sylvia Maxwell,
Bridget O'Donnell,
Tiffany Padgett and
Kara Wright. The group has played in 193 games at Mason over the last two seasons and made 112 starts.
Wright, a Louisville, Ky., native and transfer from Southeast Missouri State, has played in all 57 games over the last two seasons and has made 53 starts at Mason. She leads the team in scoring, rebounding and assists this year. Earlier this season, she eclipsed 1,000 points for her career and currently has 1,180 points in her career.
Padgett, a native of Laurel, Md., and transfer from Loyola Maryland, has also played in all 57 games the last two seasons and has made 38 starts. She has totaled 608 rebounds in her career, including 314 at Mason.
O'Donnell, a native of Bell Meade, N.J., and transfer from UMBC, has played in 56 games and made 21 starts the last two years. Maxwell, a native of Lansing, Mich., spent her first three seasons at Niagara before transferring to Mason for her final year. She has played in 23 games this year and averaged 4.9 points.
Rhode Island (4-21, 0-13 A-10) has lost 18 straight and is coming off a 74-64 loss at Davidson Saturday. The Rams are led by guard Charise Wilson (18.9 ppg), who has missed the last six games due to injury. Guard Morgan Johnson is averaging 12 points over the last three games. Rhode Island leads the series 2-1, with all three meetings coming over the last three seasons since Mason joined the Atlantic 10. The Patriots defeated URI for the first time last year with a 68-65 victory on the road.
Mason (12-14, 5-8) looks to bounce back from a 70-58 home loss to Richmond on Sunday. The Patriots are currently in 10th place in the A-10 with three regular-season games left. The No. 3 through No. 8 seeds will host the first round of the A-10 Women's Basketball Championship on campus site the weekend of Feb. 25-26. The quarterfinals, semifinals and championship game will then be played on March 3-5 at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va.
