LANCASTER, Pa. – The George Mason wrestling team won seven bouts, including a season-high three falls, in a dominant 31-11 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday at Mayser Gym in Lancaster, Pa.

Mason (6-11, 2-4 EWL) improved to 5-3 in road duals this season.

Junior Ibrahim Bunduka (18-3), 31st in the NCAA Coaches Panel Rankings, began the match at 125 pounds with a 10-2 major decision over Diplomats junior Edgar Garcia.  Bunduka scored seven points over the final two periods to notch his fifth major decision of the season.

After Franklin & Marshall (3-8, 1-6 EIWA) tied the match score 4-4 with a major decision at 133 pounds, Mason went on to win six of the final eight bouts of the night.

"There were a couple of tight matches there early," Mason assistant coach Mark Weader said.  "It was great to see some of the guys who struggled last time out have big matches for us tonight.  It was huge to get three pins in a dual meet and we talked about how big bonus points would be in this match."

At 141 pounds, Mason sophomore Tejon Anthony (17-9) and Franklin & Marshall junior Patrick Quinlan were scoreless after the first period.  Anthony recorded a pair of takedowns in the second period and led 4-2 heading into the third.

Quinlan scored with a takedown in the final minute of the third period to even the score 6-6 to force overtime.  Anthony, who ranked 30th in RPI heading into the weekend, won the match 8-6 with a takedown in the first sudden victory to give Mason a 7-3 match score advantage.

Mason senior Sahid Kargbo (24-2), who is 24th in the NCAA Coaches Panel Rankings, recorded a fall in the second period at 149 pounds against Franklin & Marshall junior Sam Butler.  Kargbo's first pin of the season increased the match score lead to 13-3.

Freshman Matthew Raines (10-15) followed with a 5-3 decision at 157 pounds to pad the Patriots lead to 16-3.  After the Diplomats picked up a win at 165 pounds, Mason senior Ryan Forrest (2-4) registered a 13-7 decision at 174 pounds.

Mason sophomore Austin Harrison (3-11) trailed 2-1 after the first period to Diplomats senior Gordon Bolig at 184 pounds.  Harrison strengthened as the match progressed and he earned a pin in the third period.

"I told myself that if I could make it through the first period that I had a pretty good shot at pulling it out in the third," Harrison said.  "Coach Russell stressed that bonus points were going to be big tonight so that's what my goal was."

Harrison recorded the first pin of his collegiate career.

"It was a long time coming," said Harrison.  "My parents surprised me and were in the crowd.  I could not ask for anything more from tonight.  The great thing about wrestling is any match can go either way."

Harrison is one of 14 Mason wrestlers with at least one pin this season.

"It was good to see, he really hung in there," Weader said of Harrison's win.  "He wrestles his best late in the second and third period and winning the match was great for him and the team.  It's good to see someone that works as hard as he does doing the right things have success."

Mason heavyweight Matthew Voss (16-10) made quick work of Franklin & Marshall senior John Argast, recording a pin with 15 seconds remaining in the first period.  Voss leads the team with four of Mason's 25 pins this season.

The Patriots have won four of the last five meetings against the Diplomats.  Each team now has 10 wins in the all-time series.

Mason concludes the road portion of the regular season at American on Friday, Feb. 17 in Washington, D.C.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
