FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team looks to extend its longest winning streak in nearly three years when a crosstown foe comes to EagleBank Arena.

The Patriots host American at 7 p.m. on Monday for their third game of a four-game homestand. Mason (3-1) is riding a three-game winning streak – its longest since the 2014-15 season.

American (2-1) is coming off a 72-56 loss at Delaware on Thursday. Senior Io Chaney came off the bench to score 10 points for the Eagles. They had won their previous two games – at Tulsa and against Atlantic 10 foe La Salle. American is led by senior guard Emily Kenniston, who is averaging a team-high 13.3 points. Junior forward Cecily Carl leads the team with 9.3 rebounds in addition to 11.7 points a game.

The Patriots holds a 29-20 advantage over the Eagles as the series dates back to Mason's second season as a program in 1974-75. The teams haven't played since the season opener of the 2011-12 season, with American grabbing a 55-51 victory in Fairfax.

At 3-1, Mason is off to its best start since the 2014-15 campaign. The Patriots are coming off wins in back-to-back days in the consolation round of the Preseason WNIT at EagleBank Arena.

On Friday, they defeated old rival Old Dominion 66-53 for just their third victory over the Monarchs in 53 tries. Graduate transfer Natalie Butler led the way with 21 points and 16 rebounds. The next day, Mason stymied Southeast Missouri State with a 57-38 victory. Sophomore Jacy Bolton scored 14 points for the second straight game. Freshman Nicole Cardano-Hillary also added 14 points and Butler posted her third straight double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Through three games, Cardano-Hillary leads the Patriots and ranks second in the A-10 with 17.3 points as she has scored in double figures in each of her first four collegiate games. Butler, a graduate student who spent the last two seasons at Connecticut, is averaging 16.5 points and ranks in the top 15 in the country with 13.0 rebounds a game.
