FAIRFAX, Va. – An afternoon matinee across the Potomac awaits the George Mason men's soccer team on Wednesday.
The Patriots square off against Revolutionary Rival George Washington at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex in Washington D.C. Mason currently holds a 1-0 lead in the
Revolutionary Rivalry series in 2017-18 thanks to a 4-3 victory by the Mason women's soccer team on Sept. 21.
Mason (5-2-2, 0-0-1 Atlantic 10) rides a three-game unbeaten streak into the matchup. The Patriots tied defending A-10 Tournament champ Fordham 1-1 in the A-10 opener on Saturday at George Mason Stadium.
Senior captain
Henning Dirks scored for the third straight game and leads the Atlantic 10 in goals (eight), assists (six) and points (22). He also ranks second in the country in points per game (2.44) and tied for third in total points (22). As a team, the Patriots lead the A-10 in goals per game (2.22) and rank 12th in Division I.
George Washington (3-5-2, 0-1-0) is coming off a 2-1 loss at Rhode Island in its Atlantic 10 opener on Saturday. The Colonials are led by freshman Oscar Haynes Brown, who is tied for second in the Atlantic 10 with five goals. George Washington senior midfielder Koby Osei-Wusu is the cousin of Mason sophomore forward
Tunde Akinlosotu.
The Patriots lead the all-time series 25-13-3. But the Colonials have won the last two matchups, including a 3-0 shutout last October at George Mason Stadium.
