Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team welcomed the red-hot VCU Rams to town Saturday night, a Rams team that was on a 17-match winning streak. They would make it 18 in a row as they defeated the Patriots 3-0.
"We were struggling against them but I think the middle blockers did a nice job and were certainly doing their part," head coach
Aylene Ilkson said. "VCU is good this year. They're on fire and we just didn't have it in us tonight."
Senior outside hitter
Jordan Glass continued to stay hot as she put together another notable performance, leading the team with eight kills and nine points. Glass also posted a .353 hit percentage, the second highest she's recorded in a match this season (minimum 10 attempts to qualify).
In the opening set the Patriots had a 5-0 run late in the frame that was started by a
Pihla Jarvenpaa kill and an
Emily Konchan service ace, but the Rams were in control for all other parts of the set – winning 25-13.
In the second set junior outside hitter
Maddie French caught fire, logging five kills on seven attempts. Senior middle blocker
Sydney Fanoga also contributed three of her six kills in the second set, but the Patriots fell 25-17.
Down two sets to zero, the Patriots looked to mount a comeback behind Glass compiling five kills in the set, but VCU downed Mason 25-19, winning the match in the process.
