FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason University men's basketball team (13-6, 3-3) reignites its rivalry with cross-Potomac rival George Washington on Wednesday night inside EagleBank Arena.
Tip-off between the Patriots and Colonials is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday's game will be televised on the American Sports Network, featuring commentary from Jeff McCarragher (play-by-play) and Tim Scarborough (color). In addition, Bill Rohland will call the game on the A-10 Digital Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.
* The Patriots are 12-3 in their last 15 games.
* Mason has already eclipsed its win total from the entire 2015-16 season (11).
* Last time out, the Patriots picked up a big 82-77 road win at Richmond on Sunday inside the Robins Center.
* Mason has won five of its first six road games for the first time in program history. The five road wins are the most by a Patriots team since 2012-13 (2-11 in 2015-16). The Patriots began the season 3-0 on the road for the first time since 1985-86.
* Senior
Marquise Moore posted his fourth-straight double-double and 12th overall this season with 25 points and 13 rebounds vs. the Spiders.
* For his efforts, Moore was named the A-10 Player of the Week for the third time in seven weeks. He joins T.J. Cline (Richmond) as the only players to earn the honor three times this season.
* Sophomore
Jaire Grayer grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds at Richmond. He has posted 10+ points in five of six A-10 games and is shooting 48.4 percent (15-31) from 3-point range in league play.
* Redshirt-senior
Jalen Jenkins posted 16 points and eight rebounds at Richmond. He leads the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage (.642) and is second in offensive rebounds/game (2.8).
* Moore is the top rebounding guard in the nation (10.9 rpg), is third in the country among all players in defensive rebounds/game (8.9), eighth in overall rebounding and is the only guard with 12+ double-doubles.
* In league play, Grayer is fourth in the A-10 in 3-point field goals made per game (2.5), fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (.484), t-8th in blocks (1.2/contest) and t-9th in rebounding (7.2 rpg).
* The Patriots are in the midst of the stretch where they play five of seven games on the road (2-2 thus far).
* The Patriots are 11-2 when they outrebound their opponent this season and are 26th nationally in rebounding margin (+7.0).
* Mason is 7-2 combined in road and neutral site contests this season but just 6-4 in games played inside EagleBank Arena.
BACK TO THE BOARDS
Mason held a +10.5 average rebounding margin over its opponents during its 10-3 non-conference slate. The Patriots then began to struggle in conference play and were outrebounded in their first three league tilts (-6.7 average margin, 1-2 record). Since then, Mason has gotten back on track on the glass. The Patriots have won the rebounding battle in the past three games (2-1 record) with an average margin of +5.3.
HISTORY vs. GEORGE WASHINGTON
Wednesday's game marks the 19th all-time meeting in the Revolutionary Rivalry. GW holds a 16-2 advantage in the series. George Mason and George Washington are separated by just 20 miles. The Patriots are 2-4 against the Colonials at home and 0-12 on the road. GW has captured all six meetings in A-10 play, including a pair of victories last season. The Colonials won 76-70 in Fairfax on Jan. 31 and were victorious in the District on March 1 (74-52).
A LOOK AT THE COLONIALS (10-9, 2-4 A-10)
George Washington was picked eighth out of 14 teams in the 2016-17 Atlantic 10 preseason poll. The Colonials posted an 8-5 non-conference record, highlighted by wins over UCF (74-59) and at Temple (66-63). GW is 2-4 to begin A-10 play and had dropped three straight before defeating Duquesne (65-63) at home on Jan. 18. The Colonials rank behind only Mason in A-10 rebounding margin (+6.3) but GW has struggled with field goal defense. George Washington is 12th in the conference in FG% defense (.443) and 12th in 3pt FG% defense (.381). The Colonials are led by graduate student Tyler Cavanaugh, who paces the team in scoring (15.8 ppg), rebounding (7.4 rpg) and is second in assists (2.4 apg). Junior Yuta Watanabe chips in 13.4 ppg and 5.0 rpg, while Seton Hall transfer Jaren Sina leads the team in assists (2.9 apg). Sina also averages 10.1 points and shoots 39.2 percent (38-97) from 3-point territory.
