KEY LARGO, Fla. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrap up their annual winter break training trip on Tuesday, Jan. 3, competing in the Orange Bowl Swim Classic at the Jacobs Aquatics Center in Key Largo, Fla. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
The Mason women's team finished second out of five teams, while the men's team placed third in the event last season.Â
On the women's side,
Sydney Fisher won the 50-meter butterfly (28.04), touching the wall just shy of setting the Orange Bowl Classic record (28.02). She also posted a third place finish in the 100-meter butterfly (1:03.84).
Steff Maurer placed fifth in both the 50-meter freestyle (27.90) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:00.48), while
Marla Albanese finished sixth in the 50-meter freestyle (28.08).
Sarah Brallier earned a third place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:14.74) and was fourth in the 200-meter IM (2:26.32).Â
Dorothy Reilly finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.03) and fifth in the 50-meter backstroke (31.50).
In the 50-meter breaststroke,
Amy Tansill finished fifth (35.04) and
Elizabeth Kleveno was eighth (35.89).
On the men's side,
Alec Morin swam to a fourth place finish in the 50-meter butterfly (25.91) and placed ninth in the 100-meter freestyle (53.53).Â
Matthew Lynch finished fifth in both the 50-meter butterfly (26.04) and 100-meter butterfly (57.96).
Deion Dean registered a fourth place finish in the 50-meter breaststroke (29.98) and
Steven Craig was fourth in the 200-meter IM (2:09.60), while
Zepher Begnell notched a sixth place finish in the 50-meter freestyle (23.82) in last year's event.Â
After the Orange Bowl Classic, the Patriots return to action on Saturday, Jan. 14 when they face Atlantic 10 Conference rival George Washington at 12 p.m. at the Smith Center Pool in Washington, D.C.
