PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams face their second straight Atlantic 10 Conference opponent when they take on La Salle at 12 p.m. on Monday at Kirk Pool in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Mason women's team fell 166-132 to George Washington, while the Patriot's men's team was defeated 179-114 by the Colonials on Saturday.
Against George Washington on the women's side, Mason Senior
Sydney Fisher won both the 50-yard freestyle (23.59) and the 100-yard freestyle (52.09). Sophomore
Marla Albanese was second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.77) and placed third in the 100-yard freestyle (54.09).
The Patriots swept the top three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke against the Colonials. Junior
Amy Tansill claimed the top spot (1:06.25), while classmates
Sarah Brallier finished second (1:07.28) and
Allison Barahona was third (1:08.55).
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, freshman
Hannah Ikenberry recorded a second place finish (10:31.24). Junior
Dorothy Reilly finished second in both the 100-yard butterfly (58.38) and 200-yard butterfly (2:10.95).
On the men's side against George Washington, junior
Steven Craig won the 400-yard IM (4:09.52), with junior
Matthew Lynch second (4:09.92) and freshman
Attila Kiss third (4:14.62). Lynch swam to a first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.06) and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (51.30).
Senior
Jackson Hannam turned in a second place performance in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.50), while classmate
Zepher Begnell touched the wall second in the 50-yard freestyle (21.50).
Last season, the Patriots swept the Explorers at the Jim McKay Natatorium. The Mason women's team earned a 149-94 victory and the men's squad recorded a 134-107 win against La Salle.
The Mason women's team placed first in 10 of 13 events in the matchup with the Explorers, including two sweeps. Fisher won both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events and was a member of the winning 400-yard medley relay team.
Steff Maurer took the top spot on the podium in two events, winning the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke. Reilly won the 200-yard butterfly, while Brallier finished first in both the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM.
The men's team took first place in seven of 13 events in last season's matchup against La Salle. Craig won both the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyle events.
Alec Morin finished first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle.
La Salle is back in action for the first time in nearly six weeks. The Explorers men's team placed second out of eight teams, while the women's team finished in sixth place at the Bucknell Invitational on Dec. 4 in Lewisburg, Pa.
