FAIRFAX, Va. – Junior Erin Mitchell has been selected as the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week while senior goalkeeper Kirsten Glad was named Co-Defensive Player of the week, the league announced on Monday.
Mitchell, a native of Manassas, Va., had a goal and an assist in the Patriots' win Friday at UNC Wilmington. She scored the game-tying goal with 23 seconds remaining in regulation, finding the back of the net on a rebound from a sharp angle to even the score 1-1. Mitchell then set up the game-winning goal for Mason, picking up an assist with 26 seconds left in double-overtime on a crossing pass along the end line in the Patriots' 2-1 victory over the Seahawks.
Mitchell has already equaled her goal total from last season, when she scored twice in 20 games.
Glad, from Germantown, Md., made six saves in the 2-1 double-overtime win at UNCW. She stopped three shots in the first half, two in the second half and one in the second overtime against the Seahawks to improve to 6-3 on the season. UNCW entered the game fifth in scoring in the nation, averaging 3.14 goals per game.
This marks the second straight week the Patriots have earned A-10 honors. Last week, Sarah Hardison was named Offensive Player of the Week.
The Patriots begin Atlantic 10 Conference play on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m., when they host St. Bonaventure at George Mason Stadium.
