FAIRFAX, Va. – As a result for her contribution for the successful weekend by George Mason University's women's volleyball team, senior opposite hitter Tiffany Clarke has been named on the Penn Invitational All-Tournament Team.
The Patriots played four matches at The Palestra in Philadelphia and recorded their first two victories of the season, one of them coming in a most frantic fashion – Mason had a poor start against Bucknell on Saturday morning but came back with a bang to win three-straight sets and the five-set thriller as a whole. Only 15 hours prior to that, the Patriots took down Lafayette in four sets.
Clarke had 16 kills against the Leopards on Friday afternoon and 14 kills on Saturday morning against the Bison, which she compensated with five blocks. The Portmore, Jamaica native impressed even in the defeats to Howard and Penn and even tied her career-high performance of 17 kills as Mason became only one of the two teams to take a set from the defending Patriot League champions over the weekend.
Clarke was the most experienced among the seven players named on the Penn Inviataional All-Tournament Team, an honor she shared with three freshmen, two sophomores, and a junior. Just like a fortnight ago in the D.C. Volleyball Challenge, setter Tamia Dockery and outside hitter Khaila Donaldson formed a link that led Howard to an unbeaten weekend and were both named to the All-Tournament Team, with Donaldson against tabbed as MVP.
Host Penn was represented by freshman outside hitters Caroline Furrer and Courtney Quinn on the team, which was completed by Lafayette's middle blocker Carly Kutschke and Bucknell's outside hitter Sophie Bullard.
