Atlantic 10 Announces Women's Basketball Pairings for 2016-17 Season

FAIRFAX, Va. – Four Atlantic 10 Conference teams that made the postseason this past season will visit George Mason and EagleBank Arena this winter.

On Thursday, the Atlantic 10 announced the 2016-17 women's basketball conference schedule team pairings. Among those to visit Fairfax are two of the league's three NCAA Tournament participants last year – George Washington and St. Bonaventure – and a pair of teams that appeared in the WNIT – Dayton and VCU.

The league's 14 member schools will once again play a 16-game schedule, allowing opponents to see every team once and three teams twice. The complete 2016-17 conference schedule with dates and times will be announced at a later date by the conference office.

The Patriots will play Davidson, George Washington and Richmond twice – at home and on the road. In addition, Mason will host the following teams at EagleBank Arena: Dayton, Fordham, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure and VCU. The Patriots will hit the road to take on Duquesne, La Salle, Massachusetts, Saint Joseph's and Saint Louis.

George Washington, Duquesne and Saint Louis all shared last year's A-10 regular-season championship. GW captured the Atlantic 10 Tournament championship and received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, losing to Kansas State in the first round.

Duquesne and St. Bonaventure both received at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the second round. Duquesne lost to eventual national champ Connecticut and St. Bonaventure was knocked out by Final Four bound Oregon State. Dayton, Saint Louis and VCU each made the WNIT, with Saint Louis advancing the furthest – to the third round.

The 2017 A-10 Tournament will feature a new, enhanced format, with six first-round games being played on campus sites before heading to Richmond on Friday through Sunday for the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship games at the Richmond Coliseum.

The top two seeds will receive a bye, with the remainder of the field facing off in games hosted by seeds 3-8 for the first round, The first round will take place on the Saturday and Sunday prior to the weekend of the quarterfinals, semifinals and final. In 2017, the first round will be held on Feb. 25-26 on campus sites, with the three final rounds being played March 3-5 at the Richmond Coliseum.

Mason went 12-19 last year, knocking off Dayton in the second round of the A-10 Tournament to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time. The Patriots return seven letterwinners, including four starters, and welcome five freshmen and a transfer.
