Competitive Slate Awaits Women's Soccer for Upcoming Season

FAIRFAX, Va. – Ten home matches and four contests against 2015 NCAA Tournament participants highlight the 2016 George Mason women's soccer schedule. The Patriots will once again play a 10-match Atlantic 10 Conference slate with the top eight teams vying for a spot in the conference tournament.

The home schedule is highlighted by a Sept. 4 matchup with Big 12 opponent Oklahoma. League rival and defending A-10 Tournament champion Duquesne also visits George Mason Stadium this fall.

“We are excited by the challenges this schedule presents,” noted second-year head coach Todd Bramble. “We were intentional in trying to strengthen the non-conference portion and we have certainly accomplished that. This is the type of schedule we plan to build every year. We will be thoroughly prepared for what should be an exciting A-10 season.”

The Patriots will open the fall slate at home against former conference foe Old Dominion on Friday, Aug. 19 before visiting 2015 NCAA quarterfinalist Virginia Aug. 21. The defending ACC regular season champions, the Cavaliers finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the nation and reached the NCAA quarterfinals before falling to Rutgers in a shootout.

Following the tilt in Charlottesville, Mason returns to Fairfax to open a four-match homestand beginning with a trio of local opponents. The homestand kicks off with American (Aug. 25) and continues with Towson (Aug. 28) and Howard (Sept. 1), a 2015 NCAA qualifier. The Sooners cap the homestand with their visit on Sept. 4.

Mason will then go back on the road to close out the non-conference slate. The three-match road swing opens at Georgetown (Sept. 8), a 2015 NCAA Tournament team that finished with 11 wins last season. The Patriots also visit Maryland (Sept. 11) and UNC Wilmington (Sept. 16) to finalize the out-of-conference schedule.

The Patriots then begin the 10-game A-10 schedule, opening at home with St. Bonaventure (Sept. 29) and Dayton (October 2).

A pair of road contests at UMass (Oct. 6) and Saint Louis (Oct. 9) precede a two-match homestand against NCAA Tournament participant Duquesne (Oct. 13) and Davidson (Oct. 16).

Mason then plays three straight matches on the road beginning at in-state rival VCU (Oct. 20). Next on the road trip is Revolutionary Rival and 2015 A-10 regular season champ George Washington (Oct. 23). A visit to La Salle on Oct. 27 closes out the road swing.

The home schedule and regular season concludes with a visit from Fordham on Oct. 30.

This year's A-10 Tournament will feature the top eight teams in the league standings. The tournament will take place at Rhode Island, Nov. 3-6, with the champion earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
