Fairfax, Va. – George Mason University's softball team will be prepared to battle Dayton and potentially the weather conditions in Mason's second home Atlantic 10 series of the season. The Patriots recently split a mid-week doubleheader against Maryland Eastern-Shore, winning game one 3-1, before falling 3-2 in game two.
Mason was able to win the first game of a doubleheader for the first time in three prior doubleheaders, thanks to a standout performance by freshman pitcher Gabriella Lopez. Lopez shut down the Hawks, only allowing one run in her first complete game of the season.
Senior outfielder Casey Price has done it all for the Patriots lately and now leads the team with a .369 batting average to go along with a team leading 21 RBI's, ten doubles, 31 hits and a slugging percentage of .536. Price has also started and played in all 29 of Mason's games this season.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Flyers have won their last three A-10 conference matchups, with one coming against Rhode Island and two coming against St. Louis. In last season's A-10 Tournament, Mason went 1-1 against Dayton. The loss against the Flyers knocked the Patriots out of the tournament and dashed any hopes the team had of reaching the NCAA tournament. This season, the Flyers' have relied on Katie Ryan and Lisa Tassi to supply the power and Gabrielle Snyder and Hannah DeSalvo to provide the runs. Ryan and Tassi are tied for the team lead in RBI's with 11 while Snyder and DeSalvo both lead the team in runs with 11 apiece. Snyder is also one of Dayton's best pitcher's as she leads the team in wins with five and an ERA of 1.47. Although pitcher Manda Cash has a 4-6 record, she has a 1.73 ERA to go along with seven complete games and three saves in 17 appearances for the Flyers.
