As his college career comes to a close, senior center Shevon Thompson has been invited to play in one of the premier showcase basketball tournaments, the 2016 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (P.I.T.). The four-day tournament runs from April 13-16 in Portsmouth, Virginia. For the past 63 years, P.I.T. has invited 64 of the best college basketball seniors from across the nation to participate in the 12 game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team.

Mason's leading rebounder the past two seasons, Thompson also led the Atlantic 10 Conference in rebounding since he arrived at Mason as a junior and has consistently been a top rebounder in the nation. This season, the Clarendon, Jamaica native pulled down 329 rebounds and finished with 13 double-doubles. With 351 rebounds his junior season, Thompson owns a career 680 rebounds in 62 games to rank 12^th in the all-time George Mason record book. Thompson finished his collegiate career with 29 double-doubles and averaged a double-double of 11.2 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game. His 11.0 rpg average tops the George Mason record book in career rebounding average. He earned A-10 All-Conference Third Team honors following his junior season.

Thompson's first game will take place on Wednesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. Full team rosters will be decided and announced on Monday, April 11.

Started in 1953, the P.I.T. quickly became successful and drew the attention of hundreds of scouts, General Managers and Representatives from all 30 NBA teams. Today, numerous international leagues have joined in the annual tournament.
