George Mason Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Brad Edwards announced the hiring of Jackie Campbell as Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Women's Administrator (SWA). A veteran of more than 20 years in sports administration and compliance, Campbell comes to George Mason having worked in collegiate athletics at the NCAA, the Atlantic 10 Conference and in university campus athletic departments.
She began her career in college athletics with the NCAA from 1991 to 1997, serving as a legislative assistant and as assistant chief of staff for Division I. In her return to the NCAA national office in 2008 she spent six years, first as a director on the Division I women's basketball staff and then as the director of Division I governance.
Campbell has served on several NCAA committees, including the prestigious Division I Management Council, a high-level group responsible for the day-to-day decision making for Division I, where she was chair during the 2007-08 academic year. Her NCAA committee service includes work on the Division I Women's Basketball Committee; Division I Women's Soccer Committee; Division I Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet and the Division I Satisfactory-Progress Waivers Committee, where she served as chair during her final two years.
Campbell spent a total of 10 years with the Atlantic 10 Conference, most recently as senior associate commissioner working on conference-wide strategic initiatives and on all aspects of the conference women's basketball program. Originally hired in 1997 as the assistant commissioner for compliance, she returned to the conference in 2004 as an associate commissioner, with responsibility for the league's compliance and governance initiatives, student-athlete advisory committee and sport championships.
She had prior campus experience at the University of Maryland as associate director of athletics for compliance, and at the University of Connecticut as associate director of athletics for student services.
A member of the field hockey and basketball teams at the University of Virginia, Campbell graduated in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in commerce. She also earned a master's degree in sports management from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
A native of New Jersey, she was inducted into the South Jersey Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.
