Fairfax, Va. – After helping George Mason University's men's volleyball team to two road wins that got Mason back into post-season contention, sophomore setter Brian Negron was selected as Offensive Player of the Week of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association on Monday.

The San Juan, Puerto Rico native started against NJIT and Princeton last weekend and accumulated 93 assists over the course of the two contests. Negron demonstrated steel nerves on Friday and dished out six of his career-high 57 assists in the crucial fifth set to lead the Patriots to an important victory over the Highlanders. Twenty-four hours later added 36 assists – more than the entire Princeton team – to orchestrate one of the top offensive displays by Mason this season for a dominant sweep against the Tigers.

This is Negron's first week honor for the player, who was also tabbed EIVA Newcomer of the Year last year.

Negron and the entire Mason team are in spring break this week but will attempt to continue their winning streak next week, when they travel south for non-conference matches against Pfeiffer and King.
