Fairfax, Va. – George Mason University's men's volleyball team returns to the road after a week-long spring break to face Conference Carolinas members King and Pfeiffer over the weekend.
Mason went into the break on a high note after clawing to victory in five sets at NJIT two weeks ago and sweeping Princeton on the road the following night. The two EIVA wins helped the Patriots climb up into fourth position in the table and get in pole position for a postseason berth.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Mason's first match of the weekend will be a first-ever meeting with the Tornado, who have struggled lately and sit second to last in Conference Carolinas with a 2-10 conference record. King already competed this week, falling to non-conference opponent McKendree in four sets on Thursday night for its fifth-straight defeat. Prior to that, the Tornado traveled to Loretto, Pa. to play Mason's EIVA rival Saint Francis and took a set out of the Red Flash in another non-conference contest.
Just like in early February, when the Patriots handed Pfeiffer its first loss of the season in Fairfax, the Falcons have been cruising in conference competition, boasting an 11-2 Conference Carolinas record. Despite that, the Falcons are still looking for their first non-conference win with Mason being the first out-of-conference opponent that they will host in Merner Gymnasium this season. In addition to the Feb. 5 loss at the RAC, Pfeiffer suffered non-conference losses at Saint Francis and Ohio State.
