Fairfax, Va.- George Mason University's wrestling team dominated Bloomsburg from very start of the dual, winning by the score of 38-4. The Patriots only dropped one match on the day.
The dual started at the 141 pound weight division and redshirt freshman Tejon Anthony(141) was able to set the tone with his aggressive wrestling style. Anthony ended up winning by technical fall 3:32 into the match, 18-3.
After a forfeit in the 149 pound weight division, Mason's redshirt senior captain Greg Flournoy(157) won a hard fought match, 5-3. Flournoy gained his fifth point for riding time after refusing to let his opponent from Bloomsburg get an escape point in the third period, which could have potentially tied the match at 4 apiece.
Redshirt junior Patrick Davis(165) produced a quick takedown and won by fall as he pinned his opponent only 1:18 into the match. Following Davis' strong performance, sophomore Daniel Mika earned his first win of the season for the Patriots with a tightly contested win by decision, 6-4.
Redshirt junior Luke Ludke produced another win for Mason, however, the Patriot needed overtime to decide the match. In overtime, Ludke got a takedown and won decision 3-1.
Redshirt freshman Matt Voss(HWT) gave Mason another win by decision, 5-3. The win gave Voss 20 wins on the season, an impressive mark for the Patriot wrestler's first season.
In the final match of the dual after a second Bloomsburg forfeit, coming at the 125 pound weight division, redshirt senior captain Vince Rodriguez(133) broke out of his recent slump to win by decision, 6-1. Rodriguez had lost two straight matches and got back on track with a confidence building win.
Mason finishes the week with a 1-1 record and will try and carry over the momentum from two solid performances against Franklin & Marshall and Bucknell next Saturday, at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
