Fairfax, Va. – After three consecutive weekends of non-conference play, George Mason University's men's volleyball team will play its first EIVA double-header in five years, hosting Harvard for a pair of matches during Alumni Weekend.
Mason has picked up steam in recent weeks, picking up four consecutive victories on home and dropping only a set over the course of the win streak. This will be the Patriots' first meeting with the Crimson since the 2015 EIVA Championship semi-final, in which Mason prevailed 3-1.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Harvard began conference competition a week ago when it hosted EIVA's two ranked teams from last week – No. 7 Penn State and No. 15 Saint Francis. The Crimson responded in the best possible manner to the 3-0 loss to the Nittany Lions on Friday and defeated the Red Flash by the same margin the following night to improve to 4-5 overall.
The Crimson bolsters EIVA's most efficient attack, hitting an average of .300 per match. It is led by senior outside hitter Branden Clemens, who averages 3.88 kills per set. Clemens also records 2.03 digs per set and is one of three Harvard players along with juniors Casey White (2.21) and Samuel Murphy who will have to stop Mason's offense, which leads the league in aces with 52.
During the break between the second and third set in Saturday's match, several Mason men's volleyball alumni will return to the RAC to be recognized for their continuous support for the program through the years.
