UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The George Mason University men's basketball team (7-3) stuck to its winning formula and extended its streak to six victories in a row with an 85-66 victory over Penn State Wednesday night inside the Bryce Jordan Center.

In front of a national TV audience on Big Ten Network, the Patriots played one of their best games of the season and received contributions from all over the roster.

Trailing 38-37 at the break, Mason outscored Penn State, 48-28, in the second half and held a +15 edge (27-12) on the glass in the period. In all, the Patriots enjoyed a 44-29 rebounding edge, posted a massive 44-16 edge in points in the paint and were +13 (17-4) in second chance points on the strength of 10 offensive rebounds.

The win marked Mason's first victory over a Big Ten team since 2009 and extended the Patriot win streak to six for the first time since January 2012.

"I'm very proud of our guys for a great win on the road," head coach Dave Paulsen said. "We played four guards and were able to outrebound Penn State by 15. We have outstanding rebounding guards. That and the second chance points were the difference. We doubled the post as much as we could and that helped disrupt their rhythm of attacking us inside."

Mason shot over 50 percent from the field for the second straight game and held the Nittany Lions to 36.1 percent, including a 30.3 percent effort in the second half.

Senior Marquise Moore led the Patriots with a career-best 25 points to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds. Moore also dished out five assists and grabbed three steals in 36 minutes on the floor.

The effort marked his sixth double-double in 10 games this season and added to his bountiful board total as the nation's top rebounding guard.

Sophomore guard Otis Livingston II tallied 18 points, three assists and two steals, while redshirt-senior Jalen Jenkins fought through foul trouble to post 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting. 10 of Jenkins' 15 points came in the second half.

Sophomore Jaire Grayer chipped in nine points while freshman Ian Boyd added eight points (3-4 FG) in another solid effort off the bench for the Green & Gold.

Penn State jumped out to a 10-5 lead, but Mason surged in front on the strength of an 11-2 run that gave the Patriots a 22-15 edge at the 12 minute mark of the first half. The run included five points from Ian Boyd and four from Livingston.

The Nittany Lions used a 10-2 spurt to pull back in front by one (25-24) and the teams then traded baskets for the next several minutes. Mason held leads of 34-33 and 37-36 late in the period, but Penn State hit a pair of free throws to take a 38-37 lead into the break.

Mason shot 46.9 percent (15-32) in the opening half, but Penn State hit 7-of-14 (.500) 3-point attempts to gain the halftime advantage.

The Patriots came out for the second half cooking on all cylinders. After a PSU bucket, Mason put together a 9-0 run, highlighted by a pair of nifty lay-ins from Moore, to pull ahead by eight (48-40) and force a Nittany Lion timeout.

Penn State answered back with a 10-0 spurt to pull within two (50-48), but from there, Mason put the game away with a 13-2 run that gave the Patriots a 67-53 lead with 7:21 to play. Mason held off the Nittany Lions from there and took their largest lead of the contest (19) as time expired.

After the Nittany Lions shot 50 percent from deep in the first half, Mason held PSU to a 21.4 percent clip (3-14) in the second half.

Mason wraps up its two-game road swing with a trip to the Cathedral of College Hoops. The Patriots will take on Penn on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside the Palestra in Philadelphia.

From there, Mason returns home Monday (Dec. 12) for a 7 p.m. contest vs. Longwood. Click here for tickets.
