MIAMI – Receiving contributions from every member of the team, the George Mason women's basketball team closed out non-conference play in convincing fashion.
Ten players scored as the Patriots cruised to a 67-51 victory over Florida International on Wednesday in the final game of the two-day FIU Holiday Classic at FIU Arena. Senior
Tiffany Padgett led the way with 11 points off the bench and freshman
Sarah Kaminski added 10. Mason used all 12 players and six scored at least six points. All 12 players grabbed at least one rebound with Padgett and redshirt sophomore
Casey Davis leading the way with seven rebounds apiece.
The Patriots (8-6, 1-0 Atlantic 10) close out non-conference play with seven wins. Including their win over Atlantic 10 rival Massachusetts four weeks ago, the Patriots have won five road games this year for their most in one season since 2005-06. Their four non-conference road wins are the most since 1993-94.
"Great way to end our non-conference with a win and everyone getting in on the action," Mason head coach
Nyla Milleson said. "One of our focuses today was rebounding and every player had at least one rebound and we out-rebounded FIU in a big way. We are excited to return to EagleBank Arena on Saturday for A-10 play."
Mason grabbed the lead late in the first quarter and never trailed the rest of the way, leading by as many as 26 points. The Patriots dominated the boards, winning the rebounding battle 48-25 and grabbing 20 offensive rebounds that amounted to 13 second-chance points. They also received 34 points from their bench.
Senior
Kara Wright was named to the All-Tournament Team as she averaged 11 points and 4.5 assists in two games.
The Patriots head back to Fairfax to host St. Bonaventure at 2 p.m. on Saturday at EagleBank Arena in their Atlantic 10 home opener.
