In a groundbreaking move, the Atlantic 10 Conference will become the first league to deliver a package of regular season men's college basketball games via Facebook Live. The league will distribute 15 live contests, including five George Mason games, on the platform during the 2016-17 season.
The conference package on Facebook Live begins on the season's opening night, Nov. 11 and is comprised of 12 "Game of the Week" conference matchups and three non-conference games. The games will be simulcasts of regional sports network productions or school-produced streams for the A-10 Network.
The five Patriots broadcasts will be conference games, beginning with the home matchup with La Salle at EagleBank Arena on February 4. The game against the Explorers and the contest against Richmond (2/14) will be simulcasts of the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network's (MASN) production. Three Patriots away games will be on Facebook Live—Dayton (2/21), George Washington (2/26) and VCU (3/4).
The A-10 games on Facebook Live will appear within Facebook's News Feed and on the A-10's Facebook Page
www.facebook.com/atlantic10. Additionally, the A-10 is working with Facebook to optimize its strategy on the platform, and streaming the games via Facebook Live enables a global audience of sports fans to watch one of the best college basketball conferences in the country.
With 650 million people connected to at least one sports Page on the platform, Facebook is home to the world's largest community of sports fans. Since its debut earlier this year, Facebook Live has proven to be a valuable way for media, entertainment and sports organizations to connect and engage with a global audience in real time.
This new initiative adds to an already robust media platform designed to showcase Atlantic 10 basketball, which annually ranks among the best in the country. During the upcoming 2016-17 season, the league will set a new league record with 278 men's basketball games carried live via linear, digital and social media platforms. There will be 108 games distributed via the conference's national television package, 46 league-controlled games distributed on regional sports networks and local channels, 41 television appearances in non-conference road or neutral site games and an additional 83 home games available exclusively on the A-10 Network.
Atlantic 10 institutions reside in states that comprise 33.3 million television households, approximately 30 percent of the total national media market. There are nine A-10 institutions in or adjacent to the top 25 media markets in the country.
