FAIRFAX, Va. – Three years ago, the George Mason men's soccer team introduced itself to the rest of the Atlantic 10 by winning the conference tournament championship in its first year in the league.

On Saturday, the Patriots will say farewell to seven seniors who contributed to that run to the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Mason closes out the 2016 season against Davidson at 7 p.m. on Saturday at George Mason Stadium. Before the game, the team will recognize its seven seniors on senior night – Michael Butts, Ryan Harmouche, Zach Herstek, Daniel Hoffmann, Cullen Hunter, Steffen Kraus and Matt Tucker.

"Their introduction to Mason was playing in the NCAA Tournament and winning the conference championship," head coach Greg Andrulis said. "We are very proud of the fact they are leaving with a (conference championship) ring and helped the program get to a very high level. It is a very interesting group of guys that has really come together and a group we hold dear to our heart for a long time."

Combined, the group has played in 367 games and made 298 starts over the last five years. In that span, they've contributed to 43 wins, including three straight years (2012-14) of 11 wins or more. Harmouche and Butts both arrived in 2012, with Harmouche making 15 starts as a freshman in helping the Patriots win 11 games in their final season in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Harmouche, a senior captain and midfielder from Annandale, Va., has played in 63 games and made 53 starts, recording four goals and four assists. He started all 21 matches in 2013, notching a crucial goal in Mason's semifinal win over VCU en route to the A-10 Tournament championship.

Kraus, also a captain, has started all 60 games he's played in during his career. As a freshman in 2013, the Stuttgart, Germany native started all 21 games and played every minute of the season, proving instrumental in Mason's trek to the A-10 Tournament championship. He allowed just 16 goals, for a 0.71 goals against average, leading the conference in GAA and shutouts (nine) for the season. He was named a Third Team NSCAA All-American and tabbed the A-10 Rookie of the Year in addition to earning A-10 All-Tournament and All-Conference Second Team honors. Last year, he was tabbed to the NSCAA All-Midwest Third Team.

Herstek, from Dillsburg, Pa., has played in 66 games, making 56 starts – the most among active players. The midfielder also has scored four goals and dished out two assists. In 2013, he came through twice in converting penalty kicks – once against Saint Joseph's in the first round of the A-10 Tournament and then again in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in advancing past William & Mary.

Tucker, from Irondequoit, N.Y., has played in 60 games and made 35 starts. A versatile player who has played up front and in back, he has five goals and three assists. Hoffmann, from Gifhorn, Germany, has played in 57 games and made 41 starts. The forward boasts six goals and six assists for his career, including two this season.

Hunter, from nearby Ashburn, Va., has played in 45 games, making 43 starts. The defender, who returned from an injury earlier this year, has three goals and one assist in his career. Butts, a native of Charleston, S.C., has played in 16 games and made 10 starts for his career with four career shutouts.

"When we have a chance to reflect on these guys' careers it will be very positive," Andrulis said. "All the guys have made a contribution through their careers. Unfortunately this year didn't work out the way anybody had anticipated. But I think once the dust settles and you have a chance to digest everything, they were a part of two very, very good teams. Hopefully that is what they'll take away – they helped out elevate the program. Their leadership and their work rate and their temperament will be things we'll use in examples as we move forward. They are all really terrific guys."
