Box Score The George Mason men's basketball team defeated Bradley today, 77-66, to finish the Gulf Coast Showcase with a 2-1 record. Mason lost to Houston, but defeated Kent State.
The teams got off to a slow start, playing in their third straight game, but Mason struck first with an
Otis Livingston II layup at 18:28 then jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Bradley got their first field goal with 14:42 on the clock, a layup by Callum Barker. Mason scored five straight points to extend its lead to 15-4. At 18-13 all five Mason starters were on the board led by the seniors
Marquise Moore and
Jalen Jenkins with five points each.
Bradley would make a 16-5 run to get their first tie of the game as Luuk Van Bree connected on a three-pointer with 6:41 left to knot the game at 18. The Braves would have a field goal drought the final 4:34 of the half but would make five free throws. Mason would finish with four from the charity stripe and a layup by
Jaire Grayer and go into the locker room up one, 26-25.
Two buckets by the Braves to start the half gave Bradley an early 29-27 lead, but Mason would answer with a 14-0 run led by two
Otis Livingston II three-pointers, two
Justin Kier baskets and four points from Moore. A Darrell Brown 3-pointer ended the run.
Bradley's Brown would score the next five points, but Mason responded with several players getting on the board, including back-to-back Patriot threes by
Jaire Grayer and
Karmari Newman to increase their lead to 57-40. The Braves Darrell Brown tried to keep them close scoring nine points in that span, including two threes.
Mason would build their largest lead of 21 points with 4:18 left in the game. Bradley pressured the ball and fouled down the stretch trying to cut into the Patriots lead. Mason would turn the ball over three times, but made all eight of their free throws in the final 1:07 to secure the 77-66 win.
