The Cougars went on a 13-2 scoring run to make the score 13-6 with just under 13 minutes left in the half. The Cougars would put together three more scoring runs, including an 8-0 run to end the half. Livingston made Mason's first three of the game to cut the lead to 14 with 2:19 remaining, 40-26. Marquise Moore and Livingston would finish with 10 points each at the half to lead Mason. Houston had three players in double-figure scoring at the half with Rob Gray's 12 points and Damyean Dotson 11 points, including shooting 3-4 behind the arc.
The Patriots committed 11 turnovers in the first half leading to 15 points for the Cougars. Mason protected the ball better in the second half with only three miscues but the margin was too much to overcome.
